Sky and Telemar are finalizing negotiations on a commercial partnership similar to the DTH operator?s agreement with Brasil Telecom to cross-sell pay-TV packages and broadband service via ADSL. The first step will be to capture new subscribers to both the pay-TV and ADSL services, possibly followed by collaboration on the operating level.
The partnership is important because the region covered by Telemar (Rio, Minas, Espírito Santo, the Northeast and some states in the North) has large cable operations that already offer cable modems. Telemar has the fewest ADSL subscribers of all three incumbent LECs ? around 70,000 ? although it has more than 60,000 ISDN subscribers.
