On Tuesday, August 27, Sky Brazil and the GloboNews channel officially launched Latin America?s first news channel with interactive features available 24 hours a day. Interactive GloboNews is the same as GloboNews plus a set of information items hitherto accessible only via the GloboNews.com portal. Sky?s subscribers will now be able to access regular GloboNews programming simultaneously with real-time news items from the portal directly on screen using the remote control. The interactive channel is available at no extra cost to some 250,000 set-tops installed since 1999. The operator is developing a solution for the other 450,000 set-tops that don?t support the application. As a direct partner in the development of Interactive GloboNews interativo, Sky contributes the know-how it has acquired in other interactive services created last year. Cable and MMDS operators that distribute the conventional GloboNews channel can offer the interactive product if they have digital platforms capable of supporting interactivity.
