TAP Latin America, which represents most international programmers, said Wednesday, August, 28, that its members agree with the main aim of the new pay-TV industry model proposed by ABTA but have reservations about other aspects of the proposal, especially the risk of a reduction in programming variety. Many items that would need to be renegotiated are in confidential agreements and can?t be openly debated with ABTA, it said without specifying the items it meant. TAP also said regional executives of programmers should be brought into the discussion with ABTA. Programmers have put a great deal of time and effort in the Brazilian market in recent years, it went on, despite modest rates of growth and foreign-exchange instability. They have supported operators? marketing activities and invested in local production. TAP also said international programmers are willing to contribute to ABTA campaigns to add value to pay television, combat piracy and conduct cooperative advertising.
