Nickelodeon announces local production venture

Nickelodeon is to invest in local production of programming for its Brazilian channel. It plans to set up a production center in São Paulo and is seeking to recruit a director. The new strategy also includes tighter synergy with MTV Brazil, a 50-50 joint venture between Abril and MTV Networks. These plans have just been announced during a visit to Brazil by the new Miami-based team that heads Nickelodeon Latin America, led by Antoinette Zel, president of MTV Networks for the region. They held several meetings at the company?s São Paulo office. " Brazil is our top priority,? Ms Zel said. ?We?ve already invested a great deal and plan to continue doing so.? A vigorous new marketing campaign will be launched under the aegis of the Age ad agency. The São Paulo office is to be headed by Álvaro Paes de Barros, once with Fox Brazil, and now director of distribution and new media for Nickelodeon. Fátima Zagari has been hired to run advertising sales.
