Juarez Quadros said the ministry is ready for Brazilian media groups to submit applications for validation of ownership changes involving control by legal entities in accordance with article 222 of the Constitution, recently amended by Congress. Having analyzed the legislation on broadcasting, the ministry?s lawyers have concluded that no changes are needed to bring it into line with the new text of the article, he said. However, he stressed that for now only requests for transfer of radio and TV licenses to Brazilian legal entities will be accepted. The amendment also allows foreigners to own up to 30% of media companies, but changes in this respect won?t be allowed until specific rules are issued, Mr Quadros said.
