TV Cidade is testing digital cable transmission in Recife, capital of the state of Pernambuco, where it operates under the brand name Cabo Mais. Executives working on the project say they can?t name the platform utilized or partners for the time being. Globo Cabo is also developing a digitization project, using set-tops to be supplied and financed either by Scientific-Atlanta or Motorola Broadband. Vendors see this as the first (and last) attractive deal on offer in 2002. The company, which has just changed its name to Net, plans to digitize the subscriber base very gradually in stages, rather than all at once as in the network encryption project.
