Sky has announced operating and financial results for its DTH operation in Brazil. The total number of subscribers, as already reported by PAY-TV Real Time News, was 708,000 gross at December 31, for an increase of 9% in the year. Gross revenue rose 30% in local currency but only 1% in dollars to 226.8 million USD. Net revenue fell 2% because of devaluation and taxes, amounting to 193m USD in the year. EBITDA was minus 15.9m USD, improving from minus 79.1m in 2000. Net loss was 144.5m USD, also improving from 189.1m USD in 2000. Net debt totaled 434m USD, almost all of it long term. Sky?s shareholders (Globo, News Corp., and Liberty) invested 90m USD in the Brazilian operation in 2001.
