No changes to Cable Act this year

Antonio Carlos Valente, deputy director-general of Anatel, says no amendments to the Cable Act will be proposed this year. Congress will be debating a mass media bill next year, he notes, and changes can be discussed then. Anatel had earlier advocated adapting the Cable Act to the General Telecommunications Act, arguing that cable companies should be required only to obtain ?authorizations? rather than bid for licenses at auction, for example. Now it?s clear that nothing will be changed until the next Federal Administration is in office.
