Clearly reflecting subscriber interest in news of the war in Iraq, Globonews led adult pay-TV channels measured by Ibope Mídia in terms of average daily audience ratings in March. The 24-hour news channel was watched by 643,000 people on average each day in the six metropolitan areas surveyed (São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Curitiba, Belo Horizonte, and the Federal District). No other news channels ranked among the top 19 in the period.
A separate ranking by average time watched per day, however, shows NHK, the Japanese-Brazilian channel, in first place with 46 minutes and Globonews second with 41 minutes. Band News ranks 15th with just over 22 minutes, followed by CNN Español with almost 22 minutes.
