Draft bidding notice on 28 GHz goes to board of Anatel

Anatel?s private service department has sent the board a draft bidding notice for an auction of frequencies in the 28 GHz band, says Jarbas Valente, who heads the department. If approved by the board, the document will be released for public comment and review. According to Mr Valente, the proposal calls for channeling in three blocks of 500 MHz plus two blocks of 75 MHz to attract bids from companies of different sizes. ?For the time being we expect these frequencies to be used only for fixed-line telephony (STFC) and multimedia (SCM), but if other service providers show an interest we?ll look at it carefully,? he explains. The rest of the document is similar to the bidding notices for the 3500 MHz and 10.5 GHz bands already approved by Anatel?s board. The 28 GHz band was once reserved for LMDS (Local Multipoint Distribution Service), which on an earlier occasion was tested for video transmission.
